Abstract

Congenital dislocation of the hip is not as common in Korea as in western countries. The reasons for this are poorly understood. But racial differences and native customs may offer a partial explanation. This is a presentation of 5 cases of congenital dislocation of hip under the age of three who were treated conservatively at Severance Hospital. Closed reduction was done under general anesthesia, and then the so called "frog leg" double hip Spica was applied in all cases. After four to six months, this immobilization was replaced by"450 -45-45" double hip sipca. The latter was discarded after three months, whereupon physiotherapy was instituted. Anatomical reduction and subsequent clinical course were excellent in all cases. The sample was too small to draw any definitive conclusion.
